Here in the U.S., TD Tree Days is celebrating its 4th anniversary! And up north, our friends and colleagues in Canada are thrilled to be commemorating the 5th anniversary of the program. Congratulations to everyone for such a wonderful achievement! To mark this tremendous milestone, we set a goal of planting 50,000 trees at 175 sites across four countries!

With more than 135,000 trees planted to date, we as TD Volunteers have so much to be proud of! As we embark on this next year, we thought we'd take a short walk down memory lane to reflect on how far we've come.

In 2010, TD Tree Days launched as TD's flagship Employee volunteer initiative in Canada. Employees planted 28,000 trees at 54 events in 50 communities nationwide.

In 2011, TD Tree Days grew to 86 events in Canada, including a special planting with Wayne "The Great One" Gretzky in Vancouver. Not wanting to keep all the fun to themselves, TDBG invited friends and family to join TD Volunteers as they worked to green communities nationwide.  2011 also marked the first year that TD in the U.S. participated in the program with three planting events, as well as Employees in the UK.

In 2012, TD Tree Days expanded to Luxembourg and more than 6,800 volunteers planted 40,000 trees at 138 events across four counties. In the U.S., we went from three events to 10 events in 2012, more than doubling the number of planting sites – including events at TDAF locations!

In 2013, 48,000 trees were planted at 142 events by more than 7,000 volunteers – including 2,000 youth. In the U.S. we doubled the amount of events to 20 – including five events in NYC – one in each borough – how cool is that?  Some of our planting events helped to rebuild areas impacted by Hurricane Sandy, while others helped to develop urban forests to enhance community and economic development.

In 2014 we will plant in 20 communities across our footprint in the U.S., including locations in Detroit, Mich. and Dallas, Texas.  If you don’t see a site in your community posted on the TD Tree Days registration site, please make sure to check back soon, as more sites are being adding to reach our goal!

To our returning volunteers, thank you for making such a tremendous impact in your community. To our new volunteers, we hope you will have a great time, and that this is the first of many years of helping to grow your local forest canopy.

We look forward to seeing you this fall and to toasting our anniversary!
